In His Name

Mixed Media on Canvas
24 x 24 inches

This textured composition centers on the sacred phrase Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim, the invocation that begins nearly every chapter of the Qur’an and every act of intention.

Rendered in fluid, gestural calligraphy, the script moves across a raw, tactile surface, as if emerging from within the material itself. The layered textures evoke both erosion and creation, suggesting a passage of time, remembrance, and return. The restrained monochromatic palette allows the words to feel embedded rather than imposed, as though the remembrance has always existed within the surface, waiting to be revealed.

The subtle luminosity within the strokes reflects the duality of divine mercy, both gentle and powerful, present in silence as much as in expression. The composition resists excess, inviting the viewer to slow down, to trace the movement of the letters, and to sit with the weight of the words.

This work becomes less about reading and more about entering. A quiet threshold where intention is set, and where every beginning is rooted in remembrance.
