Axis of Devotion
Mixed Media on Canvas
36 x 48 inches
Gallery Wrapped
This abstract composition draws inspiration from the sacred movement of the whirling dervish, a practice rooted in Sufi tradition where spinning becomes a form of remembrance and surrender.
Rather than depicting the figure literally, the painting reduces the form to its essence. A single sweeping curve suggests the circular motion of the dervish’s robe as it expands outward in meditation and devotion. The textured gold at the base reflects the idea of divine illumination emerging through spiritual discipline, while the small red accent above represents the heart, the center of intention and longing.
Set against a quiet, minimal field, the composition invites stillness. The viewer is not only observing the motion but entering the contemplative space it creates.
This work reflects the balance between movement and silence, body and spirit, earth and the divine.
